This article shows the installation of Bulkhead ducted air conditioning systems in a residential house in Brisbane. It is a large multi-level house with a flat roof and transverse beams that make it impossible to install a normal ducted system. The house has 10 x ducted bulkhead systems running from 3 x Daikin Multi Outdoor units. The use of the Daikin multi outdoor units reduces the number of outdoor units required and the overall total AC capacity. The multi outdoor units are configured so as to share the daytime air conditioning load with the night time load.
The bulkhead ducted air conditioning systems are designed for:
- Houses without the requisite roof space for a ducted air conditioning system.
- Many modern houses are designed with multi-levels, so in order to stay with council building height restrictions they often have much flatter roofs. These flatter roofs pose a problem for ducted air conditioning systems, as the space is to restrictive.
- Residential houses where a better appearance than a wall split is required.
- Within motels and hotels it’s necessary to have individual temperature control per room, which is ideal for bulkhead ducted air conditioning systems.
The configuration is as follows:
1 x 10kw Multi 2 x 5kw bulkhead units for the Kitchen
1 x 5kw bulkhead unit for the Master Bedroom
1 x 8kw Multi 1 x 5kw bulkhead unit for the Rumpus
1 x 2.5kw bulkhead unit for the Study
1 x 2.5kw bulkhead unit for Bedroom 2
1 x 2.5kw bulkhead unit for Bedroom 3
1 x 5.2kw Multi 1 x 3,5kw bulkhead unit for the Media Room
1 x 2.5kw bulkhead for the guest Bedroom
1 x 2.5kw bulkhead for the Office
Bedroom
Kitchen
Two bulkhead units are installed in the kitchen.
Media Room
The bulkhead unit is suspended from the frame and then built in. The result is very neat.
Condensate Drains
Please note that the condensate drains for these bulkhead units need to be carefully planned to move the water to suitable drain points outside the house.
